Category: Uterine Cancer Treatment

Uterus cancer is one of the most common cancers of the female genital organs in the urban population. The most common is endometrial cancer which usually occurs because of an unopposed hormonal imbalance with diabetes, hypertension, PCOD, and obesity increasing the risk. Less common but more aggressive are the sarcomas. These cancers usually present with irregular heavy vaginal bleeding or post-menopausal bleeding. Diagnosis requires imaging along with a uterine biopsy. Treatment is mainly surgical and includes removal of the uterus and both ovaries along with pelvic and paraaortic lymph nodes. Surgeries are now being done via the minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic/robotics).  Most cancers present early and have excellent prognosis. Few require additional treatment in the form of chemoradiation.
