Robotic surgery is a sophisticated type of laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery in which doctors perform some surgical procedures with the assistance of a computer-controlled robot. The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen through which he or she passes instruments and a camera to finish the operation. During this kind of surgery, the patient is put under general anesthesia and the abdomen is filled with carbon dioxide gas. Robotic surgery may enable a surgeon to do some types of surgeries with greater vision, dexterity, and precision. The surgical robot, which is equipped with three robotic arms that hold miniature equipment, is operated by the surgeon using a computer panel located in the operating room. This necessitates four or five abdominal incisions measuring 8 mm. The surgeon may do accurate dissection by seeing through a 3D camera that is attached to another robotic arm, greatly magnifying the operating location.
